The Insanity Of Circumcision

In Gen. 17:2-9, God makes a covenant with Abram. In verse 1-2 God says, "walk before me, and be thou perfect (i.e., in complete accordance with God's will)… And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly." This covenant was conditional on obedience. The condition was that Abram be in complete accordance with Gods will.

Gen. 17:10-11 says, "This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you."

Now let's be rational. The Gen. 17:1 condition seems pretty clear and involves far more than a simple barbaric circumcision, "walk before me, and be thou perfect." It appears that in verses 10-14 someone trying to simplify the matter for us, has reduced the whole will of God for man down to one single barbaric token act that has nothing whatever to do with any humanitarian or moral principle. Logic, civility, and reverence for our God - Who is Love (1 Jn. 4:8, 16) - demand that we not attribute that barbaric, token, and sadistic practice to God.

All of the unimaginable blessings (1 Cor. 2:9) of God's kingdom conditional on whether we cut off a body part that God created for a good purpose, which is a blessing itself? I do not think so. Jesus Christ, God's representative par excellence, put God's whole will for man in a nutshell, with a principle that all reasonable people should have no doubt is the quintessence of an ideal world: Jn. 15:17 "These things I command you, that ye love one another."

It is ludicrous to believe that literal, fleshly circumcision was a basis for God's covenant with man. You are free to believe what you like; but it defies common sense, is barbaric, and has no practical purpose at all but to rob those who practice it of, by some estimates, more than 50% of their sexual pleasure. I hope there are no circumcised males who would begrudge their progeny the pleasures God created for all; as if we do what's right, maybe God will restore to us in the next life what Satan has deprived us of in this one. But if there are, then I appeal to loving mothers to stand between your defenseless infant sons and the butcher knives of the mohelim.

Circumcision removes, some say, as much as 60% of the male's sexual pleasure sensors. I think it was an ungodly and cruel way to deprive male Jews of that God-given sexual pleasure; maybe for reasons similar to why clitorectomy, or female circumcision, is performed in many African countries, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, etc. today; which regardless of any ostensible excuse, likely has its roots in population and sexual behavior control. It is not surprisingly considered barbaric and inhumane by most of the rest of the world. Why is this similar patristic and barbaric Jewish rite of passage still forced on infant Jewish males too young to object even today? Jewish mothers should object for them, vehemently and incessantly, until the ungodly, cruel and uncivilized practice is ended - and even made unlawful. It would already be unlawful in every nation of a civilized world.

It is absurd to think God would create boys with a foreskin and girls with a clitoris only to have grownups cut them off! It defies reason! Presuming to correct God's grammar is one thing, but presuming to eliminate unnecessary body parts is way beyond the pale! As the hood of the clitoris, the foreskin, aside from having thousands of its own nerve endings, protects the sensitive nerve endings in the glans penis, so it too is more pleasurably sensitive to sexual stimulation. In John 7:22, Jesus said, "Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers)." He was telling those whom the truth would make free (Jn. 8:32) that circumcision was from the patriarchs, not from God..
